For Providers

From Robin McClure, Your Guide to Child Care.
I have been the guide of About.com to Child Care for 5 1/2 years now--from the time my youngest was only a mere 3 years old. Since then, my kids have grown, and my About site has matured at the same time. I've enjoyed writing this weekly newsletter, blogs and articles that I hope have helped others in their parenting journeys. Now, it is time to say goodbye. With a third grader, middle schooler, and a high school senior, I'm no longer as concerned with finding child care as I am with locating a good college and learning survival skills for when my daughter turns 13. Thanks for all the support, feedback, and ideas along the way. I am glad the childcare.about.com site will continue as a resource for parents and providers, and my articles will still be available to help others. Be sure to check in often. I know I will!

Is your family or your child's school or daycare doing something to help out here or in another way? If so, do you mind sharing the details?

Research Finds Link Between Air Pollution, Absences from School

Is Flu Season Officially Over?
With temperatures finally rising across much of the country, I've heard many parents remark how happy they are now that flu season is over. But is it really? Health experts say "no, not yet."

Finding Occasional Child Care
Whether a full-time working parent or one who has elected to stay home, there is always a need for occasional child care services. How reliable and safe are programs such as Mothers' Day Out, Drop-In Care, or even your neighborhood babysitter and what are some baby sitter tips?

When Your Kids Are On Break, But You're Not
School schedules and work weeks don't always mesh, often creating child care crises for parents. For example, my kids were off at 11 a.m. for two days this past week because it was the end of the fall semester. We're not talking college here; so, what's a parent to do?

The holidays, and the resulting letdown after festivities come to an end, can bring out the worst in children. Toy donations spike before and just after the holiday, with the spirit of out with the old and in with the new Parents clean out children's toy boxes to make room for new gifts and trendy items.
